First Impression: On Self-Reliance

My thoughts as I read "On Self-Reliance"

New vocabulary

eminent: well-known/well respected
conventional: what everyone does
admonition: warning
toil: work
latent: hidden

- Our acts our angels are, or good or ill = we are defined by our actions (what we say/do)

- The belief in you is what everyone should agree with (that's "genius") not the actual thought itself
- Thinking for one's self is more important then conforming to someone else's thoughts
- Its worth celebrating our own differences in opinion because that is more important
- Separation due to differences has such a negative connotation the we forget to realize that we should embrace our differences because that's what makes us unique not selfish
- How can you be yourself and at the same time be someone else? You can't because then your original self of who you are will die
- The only champion/captain of our life is us "you"--> the effort of our work demonstrates the "champion" we wish to become
