On Self-Reliance part 3
My thoughts as I read:
-Over time we need to stay true to our values and not change to fit in
-Don't act like you're good if your actions are not
-Only call something good if it is, because it then loses its meaning
-Emerson is against people who do charity work just to look good (vanity) because that's not real charity work, there is no real pure effort
-Honesty is what is needs to be used more often even if it's hurtful because we can grow from that to better our original selves
-Virtues: positive values/characteristics
-Negative reactions aren't based off the other but rather from within themselves
