Hungry Joe Makes Sense

 On p. 39, we read: "And suddenly it all made sense. Why not every night, indeed? It made sense to cry out in pain  every night." This passage means that it's ok to not be okay. Sometimes there will be really hard obstacles throughout life and we need to realize as a person is that, it's ok when we feel frustrated, mad or scared about the world and whatever situation we are facing. This made sense in Yossarian's head because he never allowed his feelings to be "not okay" with something. He was taught to shut up and learn and move on without hurting from anything that may have happened but seeing Hungry Joe go through what he was dealing with it finally made some sense to Yossarian that "not okay" is okay.
