Everything is a Remix
Notes on "Everything is a Remix"
- Remix: to combine or reuse existing material with something else to create something new
- anything can be remixed like music, art, pictures
- Remix = creativity
- anyone has access to remixing but we consider them "divinely" calling them talented making them seem different from everyday us.. This means we can all be creative if we just tried
- Creativity is represented by a light bulb; of a moment of insight however creative work is not a single idea but a slow combination of mixed ideas
3 Basic needs for creativity: copying, transforming, combining
- Domain knowledge: learn the "language" (copying)
- Transformation: taking existing stuff and expanding it into something new (Typewriter was invented by a man who based it off the piano due to it keys)
- Combinations: merging it with existing stuff
- Original ideas are now considered "property" but it's not completely cause it is probably a remix/copying
- Loss Aversion: we tend to become possessive over something that is our own
- Ideas contain other ideas (nothing wholly original)
