The Medium Is The Message

After the discussion in class about emails, I learned not only is our "private" messages not private but also how the channel or the medium we use to send our messages change the meaning/connotation of the message. For starters it wasn't a particular surprise to me that anything that is put into the internet isn't safe or private because honestly what is anymore these days? However I didn't realize how true it was when my teacher explained how our messages change depending on the platform we are using. For example when I text through iMessage or Instagram I'm more relaxed and not as grammatically proper but when I write an email I'm very more formal and chose my wording very wisely. So definitely after this lesson the light shines differently on my perspective of media and messaging.
