Cue Theme Music

The central message from the Great Gatsby is to live in the moment rather than trying to change the past because the you can't change the past in order to gain the "American Dream". My reasons for this being the central message is:

• Gatsby trying to change/erase Daisy's past in order to get her back to be only/completely Gatsby's. 
• Changing his name to become wealthy 
• Erase his personal history to make himself a new man
