F451 Summary Part 1

So far in the novel of Fahrenheit 451 we are thrown in to this dystopian society where humans have lost all connection. We are introduced to the main protagonist named Montag who is a firefighter but not  the typical firefighter, in this society firefighters start fires by burning books. Montag goes about his everyday life with his everyday job of starting fires until one evening he run into this girl named Clarisse. Clarisse really stands out to Montag because she is the first person he meets who actually pays attention as if she cares about Montag who she just met. Also the way they talk and the questions she ask connect Montag to her and he feels as if she completely understands him even though they both just met. Besides feeling really connected, Montag is also very intrigued by Clarisse  as she stands out from this robot society just by her house being the only one lit with actually light instead of flickering tv light that lights the rest of the community and being more curious about the world. Then after Montag left Clarisse he went home only to find his wife Mildred on the floor unconscious. Mildred had overdose and when the paramedics came to help her all they did was use a machine on her called the "Eye" and it sucked the "poison" out of her but to Montag it was almost as if it sucked the life out of her and when Montag tried to question the paramedics saying she needed they only laughed and left as if something like this happens on the daily. The next morning when we finally meet the live Mildred, she doesn't seem to remember a single thing from the night before the overdose, the "Eye" none of it and just goes back to her regular routine from before as if nothing happened. One thing that is very odd in this society is that everyone is so addicted to their screens and their "sea shells" (earphones) that it's almost scary how it can parallel our society today. Montag goes to work the next following days of his monotonous routine where the only part he looks forward to is meeting Clarisse, since ever since he met her the way Montag looks at things have changed dramatically which makes him questions things about his life like, is he in love? Why does he like being a firefighter? Does he want to be a firefighter? Or is he even happy? All these questions start to flood and consume Montag's mind and he starts to realize certain parts of him himself that he's never realized before. One thing that starts to resurface is that he starts to feel guilty about something he can't quite understand. There is something that keeps bringing him back to the air ventilator in his house. His captin of the fire department named Beatty is always teasing yet questioning Montag as to why he feels that way but with context clues the reader can tell something is being hidden inside that ventilator that he doesn't realize and if it's anything it may contain books. So as Montag starts to question every normality he used to have in his life and have strange feelings of guilt his one source of connection has disappeared, Clarisse has disappeared.
