Gatsby Chapter 9 Thoughts and Notes
-Now that Gatsby is dead, Nick tries to plan Gatsby's funeral but as he does so he realizes no truly cared for Gatsby and non bothered to even get to know him
-Nick tried calling Daisy but no one responded as she allegedly fled somewhere with Tom and no trace of where she went, Meyer Wolfsheim claimed to be in Chicago (he wasn't) but even when Nick went to Mr. Wolfsheim in person to ask him to come to the funeral he declined the invitation saying he didn't know the family and didn't want to mess with the family business of a dead one, even a random guy who constantly stayed at Gatsby's house for his grand parties declined going because all he wanted was his shoes. The only person besides Nick that came for Gatsby was his father.
-Mr. Gatsby's father came to his son's funeral but when he came, he didn't even know his own son. Yes he knew Gatsby's real name and past story but he never realized what his son had become and what potential future he could've had.
-It goes to show that no one really truly knew/understood Gatsby, not even the readers. There will always be this empty hole of Gatsby's past and mindset we won't truly see develop
-One insight we do get for Gatsby was that Nick found an old list what Gatsby used to make for himself in order to keep himself efficient to reach his goals. Gatsby was so self-driven that now it makes sense that he was always primarily focused on these goals because it's all he's ever lived for and doesn't know how to function any way else
-Nobody went to Gatsby's funeral
-Nick starts to reflect on his life /// wraps up unfinished business since he want to go back home (talks with Jordan Baker)
-Gatsby meeting Daisy like explorers finding Americas
-American Dream right in front of you but in the end no mater how hard we try to change whats happened we can't instead go with the currents and live in present
