Gatsby Notes and Thoughts: Chapter 7
- Gatsby had gone into a hiding as people (reporters) started to come over to ask him about the rumors that had been spreading about his real name/back story
- Gatsby had gotten rid of all his servants in order to kill the gossip rumors thus has stopped throwing parties
-Gatsby's new servants come from Wolfsheim's people and they clearly reflect this as they are blunt and do not want to be bothered by other people
- Daisy invited Nick, Jordan, and Gatsby over for lunch
-Once Nick and Gatsby arrive they find Daisy and Jordan calling them over and when Daisy sends Tom out to get drinks she flings herself to Gatsby
- We are introduced to Daisy's daughter Pammy, who Daisy shows affection for her daughter but wants to clearly point out that she looks only like Daisy and nothing like her father... Gatsby's reaction to Daisy's daughter wasn't really anything extreme, if anything you couldn't tell if he was mad or happy or anything. The only thing we could interpret was that he was bit shocked but remained calm
- Things become extremely heated (ironic: because the weather of this day was described as the hottest day of the summer) between Gatsby and Tom as Daisy teases and leads them on and while she professed her love to Gatsby in front of Tom
- Daisy's voice was described as a voice full of money (golden girl)
- They go out for a trip to New York but there Gatsby finally confronts Tom saying Daisy has only loved him and Tom retaliates saying vice versa
-At the end of the confrontation Daisy confesses that she has always loved Gatsby but at some point she loved Tom too. In the end she loved them both at one point
-The Tom starts to reveal shady things about what Gatsby has done and Gatsby retaliates by trying to do the same thing to Tom but in the end Tom tells her to go away with Gatsby (so really no one won this fight)
-Myrtle, Wilson's wife/Tom's affair, has died by a car killing as Nick, Tom, and Jordan were on their way back to Long Island from New York
-Once they arrive back and Nick is waiting outside, Gatsby approaches him and he tells him that they killed Myrtle, well apparently it was Daisy who was driving that killed her but Gatsby said he would take the blame for her
-When Nick goes to check what was happening inside he saw Daisy and Tom talking earnestly, neither happy or unhappy, but talking closely about something that Gatsby who was standing outside to "protect" Daisy had no idea about.
-This shows that Daisy's character was honest when she said she loved Tom at some point too, but what really shows is how quickly she is to change decisions have these 2 men wrapped around her finger /// It shows how Daisy has no backbone to make decision and is just a coward that conforms to any situation in order to save herself
-Daisy is selfish and vain who is just stringing these 2 men along only for her benefit
I want to mention that honestly this chapter has been the best chapter for me so far because it was the most intriguing since it had the most action. Now the plot is really starting to stir and now I want to see what happens.
