I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends
There are 36 students in my AP Language & Composition class and we never interact with one another on a daily basis, but today we had a socratic seminar and here are some of the thoughts I had throughout the many topics we talked about:
-the effect music has on our mood; whether it can bring back memories we didn't even realize we had or does it just shape/reflect the personality we are going to have
-social media/stereotypes effecting us and the younger generations after us
-the separation between our generation and the one before us
-how school (teachers) pressure us into something maybe we don't want regardless of our mental health condition
-how the school really doesn't provide us students with the tools to prepare for life after high school (taxes, bills, driving, careers, etc)
-The most controversial thing we talked about was abortion, just our thoughts on it. Although its a very touchy topic (which I understand it can make some feel uncomfortable) we still discussed our opinions in a very civil way which I thought was pretty awesome since it totally goes against the stereotype of teenagers being immature.
-Another thought I took away from that part of the discussion was how as soon as the question was asked the whole room just went "ooooh" like as if we were all scared, which is very reasonable for a class of teenagers to do but if you really think about it kind of intriguing as to why that was all our same reaction.
